This is the only off leash national park in South Australia, your dog of course has to be under full supervision and dog poops have to picked up which is pretty obvious anyway. This circuit is a 1.4km walk and takes about 45 mins, this is very easy walk to do. The park consists of open land as well as a forest area, as far as i could see there were fences around most of the park. However, one house we walked passed had a broken fence and there dog came out to greet our dog. I would avoid having dogs off leash at the main entrance just because this park is just off from a main road. There is no picnic areas as such in this park but I am sure you could make your little space in the open land, just be aware you might have dogs hassling you for food though! In the winter there is a nice creek that runs through the park. There are plenty of different walking trails you can take in this park to mix it up, just make sure you let someone know where you are going in case you get lost. Access to this park is on corner of Main Road and Turners Avenue, Hawthorndene, SA, 5051. My only advice is have your GPS on for this, it can be such an easy road to miss as signage is not great. The car parking is good, lots of places to park so even when its busy you don’t have to stress about missing a park, however I cant speak for all times, only the times I have been here. There are no facilities in this park so you are advised to bring your own water as well as your dogs water. Mobile coverage is good but I wouldn’t rely on it. The tracks aren’t signed at all and sometimes hard to follow as there is no proper track to follow, but thats what makes the fun right? we really enjoy this walk, and highly recommend it to anyone interested.
