Like the name suggests, fur-babies reign supreme in this stand-out cafe. Situated on Johnston Street, this is Melbourne’s first dedicated dog cafe and it’s designed for dogs-first, humans-second. There’s a gated courtyard for pooch-punters and an extensive dog-friendly menu including culinary delights like turkey muffins, chicken-flavoured pup-corn, brisket bones, dog loaf and ice cream! Your pets can even knock back a dogachino (on lactose-free milk) or treat themselves with a doughnut! And if they like what they find, why not grab them takeaway organic meat to go? As for us humans, there’s coffee and sandwiches on offer too.

Dog House isn’t just a cafe either – they also do pet grooming (washes, cuts etc), sell accessories and costumes and even double as a destination for pet weddings and birthday parties! They’re open 10am – 5pm Wednesday to Friday and 9am – 5pm on weekends.

Mum and I visited the Dog House on a Sunday afternoon and we had the best time! Mum ordered me a Puppuccino (so good!) and a lamb Pup Cake (this was one of my favourite things I’ve ever eaten! I ate it so quick and normally I am more of a grazer!)
She has a coffee and says that it tasted very nice. She’d already eaten lunch but was happy to see a few options if she was hungry!
There was a birthday party going on in the courtyard and it looks really fun! I played a little with the other dogs but we also went into one of the enclosed booths to eat so no one could steal my food!
Before we left we stopped in the shop so Mum could buy me a new toy and some treats for later. The shop had plenty to choose from. Mum said if we were going straight home she would have got some of the refrigerated meats and stuff but we had other exciting things to do so will have to go back.
The people who worked there were really nice and gave me some pats when I jumped up to say hi! I liked them!
I can’t wait to go back to visit the Dog House again!
